Plot

In 1945, Japan surrendered, and World War II ended—or so it seemed. Yet among eighty percent of Brazil's Japanese community, belief held that Japan had triumphed, and defeat was merely American propaganda. Those few immigrants who embraced the truth faced persecution, with some hunted down and killed by their own compatriots, igniting a quiet, private conflict. Dirty Hearts unfolds as a thriller and love story narrated by the wife of a fanatic devoted to proclaiming Japanese victory. Gradually, she witnesses her hardworking husband transform into an assassin, and their romance slowly disintegrate.
